Sorting for Saturation and High Density Rates

In order to get saturation and high density rates, your list must be in walk sequence order. In addition, you need to be mailing to 90% of all residences in a carrier route or 75% of all activate deliveries in the route in order to get saturation rates for that route. To get high density rates, you need 125 pieces in a route.

You can purchase a walk sequence list from a list vendor or you can have your list put in walk sequence order by a post office designated vendor. Contact your post office for more information.

To process a walk sequence list in AccuZIP6 you must have a sequence number in the list. Any walk sequence list will have the walk sequence number. In AccuZIP6 be sure to assign the walk sequence number to the field named walkseq_.

All other fields would be assigned as usual, i.e. address, city, st, zip. Once you have properly assigned the fields, import your list, then pull down the Special menu to Validate records and validate the list. This will populate the barcode field.

Pull down the Sort menu to Presort Mail. Setup the Presort Setup window according to your parameters.

  • In order to get Saturation Letter or High Density Letter rates (as opposed to nonletter rates), check the Automation Compatible and Print Barcode boxes in the Presort Setup window.
  • If you won't be printing barcodes on your pieces, leave Print Barcode unchecked. On your mailing statement, the pieces will be listed under High Density or Saturation Flats, since nonbarcoded letters get a flat rate.
  • Make sure the Include Carrier Route Sort Level box is checked.

I Just wanted to let you know we are in the Postal Fort Worth Texas Division and I received a call from someone in their office today wanting to ask me some questions. He asked if I understood about the changes with the move update starting for this month, then he asked me what software we were using. I explained to him that we have been using AccuZIP Software for the last 20 years and I thought you were the #1 in the United States. I told him that you were the only software displayed in the Postal Section of the Smithsonian Institute. He asked me if I had to manually change the updated addresses and I told him no that the Software did it for us and I could print a report showing the old address and the new address. He told me out of 32,000 names that were updated only 3 were wrong and he just wanted to call me to see what Software we were using. Thanks for such good software and support from your company over the past 20 years.
