Add Sequence Numbers to a Database

Description

Use this command to add record (or sequence) numbers to each record in your database. This command may help with tracking records, capturing selections of records, and counting records.

Before typing out and running the command, you'll need to create a record number field. To do this, pull down the Edit menu to Fields. Scroll to the bottom of the Table Structure window, click on the Empty box at the bottom, and type in your field name that will hold these sequence numbers (such as Record). Change the Type to Numeric and Click OK, then YES (to make structure changes permanent), and your database. Your database will now have an empty record field, which may look something like this:

The Command

Copy this command, then paste it into the large text area of the command window:

Replace all record with recno()

After clicking RUN, AccuZIP6's hidden record number information, recno(), will fill into the record field you created earlier. After closing the command window, you'll notice the database will now have sequence numbers assigned to all records.

Please note that the order of the sequence is based on the import order, or zip code order if the database was Optimized (using the Optimize Database feature under the Special menu).

We have been using the AccuZIP software for over seven years now. I believe that being an AccuZIP customer is one of the reasons for our success. Every time a question has arose, AccuZIP answered it completely and competently. When the post office did not have an answer for us AccuZIP did. If there was ever any conflicting info between the Post Office and AccuZIP, our AccuZIP customer service rep was always correct. We have experienced only excellent customer service. Let me make that clear not good customer service, excellent customer service.
