Do Not Contact Expanded API Parameter
AccuZIP is pleased to offer the Do Not Contact option addition to Data Enhancement Service (DES), integrated into the AccuZIP DQ service (our open-source DQ RESTful API for automated workflows).
HOW TO USE IT?
Do Not Contact Expanded API Parameter
The latest release introduces expanded DES key-value parameters and enhanced suppression output controls.
Simply add this key-value pair to the Update Quote to process through our Do Not Contact.
The new key-value pair information is listed in https://docs.accuzip.com/#0038054f-604c-4251-85fc-e828292b9845 in Update Quote.

DES Key-Value Parameters
Below are the complete supported DES parameters, including new des_dnc (Do Not Contact) control.
| { "des_dnc": "1", "des_dsf2": "1", "des_acoa": "0", "des_apartment": "0", "des_deceased": "0", "des_deceased_include": "0" } |
Do Not Contact & Suppression Activation (New)
The des_dnc parameter enables Do Not Contact and Institutional Suppression processing when set to "1"; a value of "0" or omission disables the feature, and when enabled, suppression indicators are automatically written to the resulting *.csv output file.
Match Strength Indicator
When des_dnc key is set to the string value 1, the dnmmatch_ output field, along with the other Do Not Contact Category fields will be exported and will indicate suppression match confidence, where 1 represents a match on first name, last name, address, and ZIP Code (highest confidence), 2 represents a match on last name, address, and ZIP Code, 3 represents a match on address and ZIP Code, and a blank value indicates no match.
Do Not Contact Category Flags
When a suppression match occurs, the fields dnm_d_ (Decease Opt-Out), dnm_c_ (Catalog Opt-Out), dnm_p_ (Print Media Opt-Out), and dnm_o_ (Other Direct Marketing classification Opt-Out) may populate with a value of Y to indicate a match, or blank values indicate no match.
Institutional Suppression Flags
The fields sfpf_ (State or Federal Correction Facilities) and nhrc_ (Nursing Home/Rehabilitation Centers) populate with Y when an address matches or blank values indicate no institutional match.
Credit Usage
Credits for DSF2®, Apartment Append, ACOA, and Deceased are calculated based on the qualifying records for those selected services and consume one (1) DES credit for per record processed; Do Not Contact is then calculated separately and consumes an additional one (1) DES credit per record processed, so enabling Do Not Contact increases total credit usage by the number of records processed through the Do Not Contact service
WHY USE IT?
This enhancement introduces an advanced “Do Not Contact” intelligence layer that automatically flags records associated with:
- Mail preference opt-outs (catalogs, print media, and other mail types)
- Deceased individuals
- State and federal correctional facilities
- Nursing homes and rehabilitation centers
By enabling this feature, you eliminate non-qualified records before production—reducing waste, protecting brand reputation, and strengthening compliance.
Real-World Cost Impact
Direct mail production (printing, bindery, postage, and induction) typically averages:
- First-Class Campaigns: approximately $0.60–$1.63 per piece, depending on volume
- Standard Campaigns: approximately $0.40–$1.00 per piece, depending on volume
For example, mailing 2,500 pieces at $0.50–$0.75 per piece results in a total production cost of approximately $750–$1,250.
Preprocessing that same 2,500-record list through our New Do Not Contact & Institutional Suppression Enhancement would cost approximately:
- $1.63–$2.50 total (based on $0.65–$1.00 per 1,000 records)
This represents a negligible fraction of your overall mailing investment—while proactively eliminating hundreds or even thousands of dollars in preventable production and postage expense. More importantly, it protects your brand from the reputational harm that can result from mailing to individuals who have opted out (catalogs, print media, or other mail types), deceased recipients, correctional facilities, or institutional addresses.
In practical terms, identifying and suppressing as few as two unnecessary mail pieces can fully offset the cost of the New Do Not Contact & Institutional Suppression service—making this enhancement not just prudent, but financially compelling.
AccuZIP Suppression Pricing:
- Maximum: $1.00 per 1,000 records
- As low as: $0.65 per 1,000 records with volume discounts
In short, suppression costs pennies compared to mailing dollars—delivering immediate financial protection and smarter campaign execution.
This enhancement works natively within your existing AccuZIP DQ workflow, making activation simple and operationally efficient.
We encourage you to enable this feature to immediately improve list hygiene, reduce production costs, and support responsible mailing practices.
