4.2. Placement of the Intelligent Mail Barcode

On letters, the Intelligent Mail barcode can be placed in the address block or in the barcode
clear zone
.

The Barcode Clear Zone is a 4.75” x .625” rectangular block starting from the lower right edge of the card or letter.

That’s the area in which the barcode is allowed to appear if it’s not going to be in the address block.

Within that barcode clear zone of 4.75” x .625” from the lower right edge of the piece, the right-most bar has to be at least .3” from the edge of the piece and the bottom edge of the bars should be at least .25” from the bottom of the card.

The first bar of the barcode must be no more than 4.25” from the right edge of the mail piece. The first bar of the barcode should be more than 3.5” from the right edge of the piece.
