When you attempt to validate your records, optimize your database or presort your database, you might encounter an error with the message: Data Type Mismatch. This error means that one of your fields, probably the ZIP field is a Numeric type instead of Character as it should be.

1. To change the field type, follow these instructions:
2. From the Edit menu, choose Fields.
3. Locate the field named ZIP and change the Type to Character.
4. Make sure the width of ZIP is 10 characters wide.
5. Click OK, then click Yes to save changes.
6. Pull down the Special menu to Optimize Database.
7. Click Optimize.
