When you install the AccuZIP6 DVD, the validation process will now include Delivery Point Validation (DPV) and LACSLink processing. The Delivery Point Validation processing will slow down validation quite a bit. Following are some suggestions to speed up validation:
Option 1: Purchase a 1 GB Flash Drive, and move the DPV files to the Flash Drive
Flash drives are very inexpensive (you can buy a flash drive for under $20 in some places), and some customers have reported that validation speed with DPV files on the Flash drive is as fast as their validation speed prior to processing with DPV. The flash drive most often recommended for speed improvement is the SanDisk Cruzer Titanium.
For the flash drive to process files quickly, you'll need a High Speed (USB 2.0) flash drive, and you'll need a USB 2.0 port.
If your computer has USB 1.1, then you'll need to purchase and install a USB 2.0 or USB High Speed card in order for the Flash drive speed to make a difference.
How to check for High Speed USB (USB 2.0)
- Right click on My Computer.
- Click on Properties then Hardware.
- Click Device Manager.
- Click on the + next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
- If you have any items under Universal Serial Bus Controllers that have the word Enhanced in the name, then you have USB 2.0.
Option 2: Install RAM Disk software and move the DPV files to the RAM Disk
You can speed up DPV Coding very significantly by building a RAM Disk using RAMDISK PLUS from SuperSpeed. Go to http://www.superspeed.com/desktop/ramdisk.php and scroll to the bottom of the page where you can order RamDisk Plus Professional.
RAM Disk Instructions
- Download and install RamDisk.
- During the installation, create a new RamDisk Drive Letter named "R", for Drive R. The size of the RamDisk is recommended to be 1GB, and 2GB of System RAM is required on the PC to do this. If you have less than 2GB of RAM, it is recommended that you use the Flash Drive option instead of RamDisk.
- Link AccuZIP6 to the DPV Data Files
- Copy the following files to the Flash Drive or RAM Disk from the C:\Program Files\AccuZIP6 5.0\AMSDATA\ folder:
- dphe.hsa
- dphe.hsc
- dphe.hsf
- dphe.hsx
- dphe.hsv
- lcd
- lcd.ndx
- After copying these files to the Flash drive or RAM disk, delete those files from the AMSDATA folder
- Launch AccuZIP6, then pull down the File menu to Properties (you may need to cancel the Open/Create screen).
- Click on the USPS Links tab.
- Click on the button to the right of the dphe.hsc path.
- In the Open window, locate the dphe.hsc file on the Flash disk or RAM Drive. Double-click on the file to select it.
- Click Connect.
- When the linking is successful, click OK. Your DPV files have now been mapped successfully.
- To help speed up validation more, pull down the Special menu to Optimize Database, then optimize your list prior to validation.
- Now you can Validate with DPV and your validation speed should greatly improve. With the RAM Disk, you should not experience any speed degredation.
